Mixing layers

In this section the theory of inflow jets occurring in unrestricted waters is discussed. This implies that in the jet is not affected when there is a free water level and a free bottom in the inflow basin.

From the point where the jet enters still water, two mixing layers form on the edge of the jet, the limits of which make angles with the axis of flow of. 9.5 and 4.8 respectively (cotangents. 6 and 12 receptively). Between the mixing layers there is an area in which the original velocity is maintained.
